Globally, although contraceptive use has risen in recent decades, a significant unmet need for family planning persists among 222 million (26%) women of childbearing age. Many studies have alluded to the relationships between the provision of contraception, its effectiveness, family planning, child mortality, and fertility; however, a thorough quantitative analysis encompassing a substantial range of low- and middle-income countries has not been conducted. We collated test and control variables, using data openly accessible from 64 low- and middle-income nations, across six themes: (i) family planning availability, (ii) the quality of family planning services, (iii) women's educational level, (iv) religious influences, (v) mortality rates, and (vi) socioeconomic conditions. Our analysis suggests that readily accessible and high-quality family planning services and higher levels of female education contribute to lower average fertility rates, conversely, higher infant mortality rates, larger household sizes (a proxy for population density), and greater religious adherence tend to elevate them.
